Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan has advised T&T Airports Authority officials to pursue criminal charges against a group of women who engaged in a big brawl broke at the KFC outlet at the Piarco International Airport on Saturday morning.

The fight, which was captured on video footage by several onlookers, went viral on social media over the weekend and had over 8,000 views up to yesterday.

It showed a scuffle between two women. Both of them slapped, kicked and cuffed each other and were joined at various points by at least two other women as the brawl escalated. The reason for the brawl was unknown.

About three Airports Authority security officers intervened, but they were seen in the video having great difficulty in restoring calm and order among the women.

The fight lasted close to three minutes and at the end of it three of the women were reportedly detained, handcuffed and led away from the food court area. Three airport security officers also reportedly suffered minor injuries during the brawl.

Speaking with the T&T Guardian yesterday, Sinanan said he saw the video of the fight minutes after it happened and found it very appalling. He described it as a serious security breach and said he will be closely monitoring the aftermath of the incident.

“I immediately contacted the Airport’s chairman and told him to ensure that prosecution goes to the final stages. This is certainly unacceptable in the international airport and I will ensure that no stone is left unturned in the investigations,” Sinanan said.

The T&T Guardian understands the women were later charged at the Piarco Police Station.

Airport security guards try to part the brawling women.
