Aquaholics Dragon Boat Club copped five of the six premier titles at the Chinese Bicentennial Limited’s 12th annual Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday at the Boardwalk in Chaguaramas.
They topped the Premier Small Boat 2,000m, Premier Small Boat Open 500m, Premier Small Boat Mixed 500m, Premier Small Boat Mixed 200m and the Premier Standard Boat Mixed 200m. Peeking Ducks won the Premier Small Boat All Female 200m in a time of 2:04.30, while Oceanus beat Titans and Trailblazers in the Premier Small Boat Open 200m.
Among the schools, St Joseph’s Convent (SJC) Port-of-Spain’s Wave Breakers dominated both the Under-16 and Under-21 divisions.
In the Under 16 Small Boat All Female 200m, the Wave Breakers beat their namesake from San Fernando by .30 seconds to win. Then, in the Under 21 Small Boat All Female 200m, the senior Wave Breakers was over a minute faster than the second placed school, meaning the SJC Port-of-Spain did the double in the 200m events.
One Ton Warriors also enjoyed a successful day. In the Under 21 Small Boat Open 200m, One Ton Warriors – Steamed won the race while the other team One Ton Warriors won the Under 21 Small Boat Mixed 200m.
